Why Alternative News Matters

Mainstream media often overlooks or underplays violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. These stories are not absent because the incidents didn’t happen—but because they remain untold. This newsletter brings to light those silenced voices and realities.

A Look at Some of the Stories from May 2025:

May 30, 2025

On May 30, Hindu groups in Dhaka protested against targeted attacks by Muslim mobs in Abhaynagar, Jessore, where over 20 Hindu homes were burned, shops vandalized, and several people injured. The violence followed a land dispute and led to the abduction of a Hindu youth, with most victims from the Matua community.

May 28, 2025

In a deeply shocking move for Hindus, Bangladesh’s Supreme Court has acquitted Jamaat-e-Islami leader Azharul Islam, overturning his death sentence despite his conviction for raping 13 Hindu women, murdering over 1,200 Hindus, and leading abductions and genocide during the 1971 Liberation War. His release has sparked protests by student groups, while Hindu victims are once again left without justice.

May 25, 2025

On 22 May 2025, a violent Muslim mob in Jessore’s Dahar Mashihati village attacked more than 20 homes. Homes were turned to ash in the dead of night as terrified families fled into fields, their voices unheard.

Instead of help, the cries of victims were met with silence from Bangladesh’s interim leader Md Yunus who confirmed the incident, but downplayed its communal nature, blaming Hindu villagers and shielding the Islamist perpetrators behind a narrative of retaliation.

May 17, 2025

On 22 May 2025, Islamist mobs attacked the Hindu-majority village of Dahar Moshiyahati in Bangladesh’s Jessore district, looting and burning homes, injuring livestock, and displacing over 500 Hindus. Locals allege delayed police and fire service response despite repeated pleas for help.

May 17, 2025

On 14 May 2025, Hindu student Bikash Dhar Deepta was arrested in Bangladesh’s Moulvibazar district for allegedly insulting Prophet Muhammad on Facebook, triggering unrest. He is among several Hindus booked under blasphemy laws in the past year.

May 17, 2025

On Friday (9th May), a video of a Muslim man threatening to murder all Hindus, residing in Bangladesh, surfaced on social media. The radical Muslim man used the imaginary pretext of ‘India killing all Muslims’ to justify and rationalise his genocidal remarks.

Why We Must Continue to Report and Demand Justice:

Every day, Hindus in Bangladesh face violence and marginalisation. These are not isolated cases—they are part of a larger pattern. By staying informed and amplifying truth, we resist silence and complicity.

Let us remember: This is not only a Bangladeshi issue, but a global human rights concern. By standing together for justice, we ensure these atrocities do not remain hidden or repeated.
